The Art of the Altar (2011 - onwards)

An ongoing documentary project and exploration of the colonial legacy of Catholicism alongside Hinduism on the tiny islets off the northern coast of Jaffna, including Nainativu (ancestral home), Neduntheevu, Eluvaitivu, Puliyantivu, Paruthithivu, Analaitivu, Kachchatheevu, and others. 

This work explores how Hindus and Catholics, alike, continue to worship at each other’s kovils and shrines and create their own living altars at home (saami arais), at sea (ferries), or on-the-go (tuks & cars), amidst ongoing Sinhala-Buddhist colonization efforts in the region.
